The 10 Piece Challenge

Following on from my New Year’s Resolution, I decided to set myself a little challenge. I selected 10 favourite pieces from my summer wardrobe and resolved to wear only these pieces for 2 weeks.

I recently read about this concept of decision fatigue, which is the idea that simply making decisions impairs your ability to make further decisions. So I thought this challenge would serve a dual purpose, to put my new year’s resolution into practice and reduce decision fatigue.

Far from feeling restricted I found the experience liberating. With the addition of a few key accessories, a go-to hairstyle (I was working a low side ponytail), and a streamlined make-up routine (moisturiser with SPF, taupe eyeshadow, black eyeliner, black mascara and a bright lip colour), I always left the house looking polished and together.

These 2 weeks took place over the holidays so obviously when you are going to work every day people will notice the repetition, however I still think it is a useful (and fun) exercise. So why not try it for a week?

My 10 pieces were:

Blue/white striped T-shirt

Navy T-shirt

White T-shirt

Black draped skirt

Blue cuffed shorts

Denim shorts

Chambray shirt dress

White/navy striped T-shirt dress

Red/white print wrap dress

Green silk dress

Plus some key accessories:

Rachel Zoe handbag

Tan wedge sandals and nude ballet flats

Gold men’s style watch

Gold spike necklace

My beloved Kerry Rocks Cherise ring

Style Me For…an Evening at the Tennis

January marks the start of the new tennis season and the lead-up to the Australian Open. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to a tournament in your city, this outfit would be perfect for an evening match.  These pieces are relaxed and comfy, creating a look that is fun, summery and a little bit glam.

New Year’s Resolution

I have this habit of buying things and never using them. This is usually because I am worried that they are too special for everyday or that somehow I will ruin them. So I save them for an occasion worthy of them. These items include nude Stuart Weitzman heels bought for a wedding and not worn since, a gorgeous coffee table book stored away in a drawer, and pretty much anything white.

But this year I have made a promise to myself to use these neglected items as often as possible. I actually put this resolution into practice a little early, starting with a gorgeous Rachel Zoe handbag bought in February last year which has since stayed in its dustbag in my closet. In late December I told my sister of my plan to start using it and she insisted I take it out that very day.

Since then my Rachel Zoe Charlotte bag has gone everywhere with me, even to a barbeque. It has certainly brought me more enjoyment in the past 2 weeks than in the 10 months it was in my closet. See the thing about special items is that you feel great when you use them. I hope you will share this resolution and start enjoying what you have now.
